Community Goals

Accurate open maps aren’t a luxury. They’re infrastructure.

1

Open, accurate maps of Syria

Help build and maintain open-source maps of Syria that support humanitarian response, connectivity, urban planning, and geographic data sharing.

Before and after · up to July 2026

2

A Syrian network for maps and geography

Expand the social network of people in Syria and the diaspora who care about maps, geography, and open technology.

  • In-person meetups in Damascus and online meetings open to everyone
  • Conversations with the global community on the OpenStreetMap forum
  • Preparing to register the community as a local organisation in Syria
3

Free training and volunteering

Organize volunteer activities and free training sessions around mapping and geospatial technology — raising the skills of participants and the community as a whole.

  • Online mapathons on the Tasking Manager, JOSM and MapRoulette
  • In-person workshops with local partners, such as the Douma city council
  • Session recordings on YouTube for anyone who missed them

Every line on the map has a story

What we draw behind our screens becomes a tool that supports response and recovery decisions on the ground.

Schools

Behind every school we add to the map is a child going back to learning.

Health points and roads

They mean faster access to aid and services.

Open data

Free for relief teams, municipalities, researchers and navigation apps.
